What are the benefits of variable flow pond pumps?

There are many reasons why pond keepers choose pond pumps with adjustable flow rates. First and foremost, they’re incredibly energy efficient. By reducing flow you’ll dramatically cut down on energy costs, making sure you can enjoy your hobby without it burning a hole in your pocket.

These pond pumps from Evolution Aqua can be adjusted from 1-100% flow. 100% will match the pond pump’s maximum flow, while 1% will clock in at 0.01x the pond pump’s maximum flow. It’s up to you what % flow rate you opt for, and you can easily change this % using the weatherproof external controller provided.

Another great feature of these pond pumps is that they can be ran submerged (inside your pond) or dry (outside your pond). If you’re planning to run one of these pond pumps externally, then you’ll need to prime it first.

Ultimately, no two ponds are the same. By purchasing a pond pump with an adjustable flow rate, you can dial it into your pond’s specific needs. This is the best way to ensure that your garden pond is kept a healthy pond year-round. There’s nothing better for attacting pond life than a thriving, healthy environment.

Can these pond pumps handle waste solids?

Yes, all three pond pumps in this Evolution Aqua VariPump range have a 5mm solids-handling capacity. This means that they can handle abrasive waste solids that may have built up inside your pond, like sludge, grit, and debris.

These pond pumps come with strainer cages that prevent large solids (or fish) from being sucked into the pond pump, when used internally. This ensures particles only up to 5mm in size are able to pass through, increasing the overall longevity of the pump.

By stopping large particles from passing through the pump, flow rates are kept as efficient as possible. These solids-handling pond pumps are also less likely to get blocked up and need cleaning, but if they do just detach the strainer cage, give it a good scrub in a bucket of pond water, and remove any excess muck.

What size pond pump do I need?

This range of pond pumps includes three models, suitable for medium to large-sized garden ponds. There are lots of things to consider before you make your choice, like max flow rate, max fountain height, and wattage. We’ve tried to simplify this process by listing the specifications of these pond pumps in an easy-to-read table below.

It’s also important that you select the right type of pond pump for your pond. These pond pumps are versatile and can do almost anything, but if you’re after specialist pond pumps then browse our range of fountain pumps, external pond pumps, and/or solar-powered pond pumps. What comes with these pond pumps?

These pond pumps from Evolution Aqua come as standalone units that make great filter pumps. To get the most out of them, we recommend pairing them with pond filters. They’re designed to support Evolution Aqua Nexus Filters, but they can also be partnered with one of our pressurised pond filters or pond box filters.

To create a proper filtration system, you’ll need to pick up some anti-kink pond hose (sold separately) to link your pond pump and your pond filter. You’ll also want to pick up some hose clips and anti-leak PTFE tape (also sold separately) to make sure everything is kept locked down and secure.
